Shinichi and Kaito teaming up

The occasional fairly good Aoko-or-Ran-finds-out fic
By and large, DUDES.

Item one: I sometimes feel like I should form an elite society dedicated to writing about female and gender-boundary-crossing characters. Canon is about Boys Doing Things? Let's write about the girls! . . . And then I realize that everyone who would join are people I already know.

Item two: I just realized that I only ship people with Kid, not Kaito. (Kaito/Aoko, for example, is really uninteresting to me! Childhood friends, whatevs. But give me Aoko/mysterious phantom thief and I am ALL OVER THAT.)

Wait, you mean, DC fandom isn't writing long 'shippy fic about Shinichi/Ran's epic love? OOa (E.g. Their Happily Ever After)

I haven't really looked for fic from the fandom yet because I only got up to vol. 10 or so of the series but one of these days I will catch up and join you on the Ran being awesome train. (She is so awesome. *____*)

There are some! I remember one where Shinichi's ghost helped Ran solve his murder, that one was pretty great. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough, and most of them focus more on Shinichi than Ran.

Something I forgot to put on the list: Ran & Shinichi professional team-up! He solves crimes, she kicks ass. The perfect partnership. I was so sad when I found out she only got to save him from things now and then, and not every time. (Shinichi, the solution to your problem of being tiny and weak is not gadgets, but a bodyguard.)

Oddly, I think the Magic Kaito side of fandom has been better with the female characters than the Detective Conan side. So if/when you read that (only four volumes, merges with Detective Conan later on) I have several fics to link you to.

The thing I love DC/MK for is that, for a series about Boys Doing Things, it has a LOT of awesome women. (Unfortunately, that doesn't make it less of a Boys Doing Things series, but at least the ladies are there.)
