I love how Huojin knows to run for Shirong, and how Shirong just kind of rolls with the cultural differences and knows how to help Zuko when he's hurting. And also his little moment of Lol, Zuko has a giant admiration-crush on Toph. There are not enough little hearts in the WORLD.
I love how protective and caring they are! Now all I need is for Shirong to hug Zuko (and kiss it better *G*).
Toph/Zuko is one of my favourite pairings, so I'm all for expanding those moments. On the other hand, I liked Teruko's explanation of "dragon child, too young to think about that" a lot, too. Saves us from the shipping wars.
Have it already bookmarked for later. Spent the last two weeks inhaling Criminal Minds season one through three and had no mind for anything besides that. *g*
*counts* Twenty-eight pages. I had no idea we were so long-winded! (I would ask if Criminal Minds is good, but I'm too busy watching BOSS to care. :D )
Mine too! (I think I got into it through your recs before I even watched the show, ahaha.) I kind of want Zuko and Toph and Shirong to get together and be a BADASS THREESOME OF AWESOME, no lie. |D
Oh, Embers! It is so awesome and addictive, and yet I have such a love/hate/annoyance relationship with it!
(Though largely, I admit, because of that all-round unfortunate A/N where the author compared Koizilla to Hiroshima (?!) and then went on to refer to an array of writers whose views on the 'war on terror' and contemporary Islam pretty much FILL ME WITH RAGE, ahem).
But, sorry! Squee is totally appropriate for this chapter!
I also have that relationship with Embers! Mostly because I read it before I watched the series so I often have a very hard time detaching myself from even the bits about it I don't like.
(Yeah, that A/N was kind of argh all around, though I can see why she might compare Koizilla to a nuclear weapon -- destroyed lots and lots of people with very little warning, spiritually poisoned the area with their ghosts (at least in Embers-verse), that kind of thing.)
Oh, man - I can see how coming to Avatar-proper through Embers would be ... disorientating, to say the least.
And, yes, I can see the general point when it comes to WMD!Koizilla - it's just the specifics of the Hiroshima comparison are extremely problematic. And while I love the Embers-verse idea of angry ghosts being A Big Problem, I think she was talking about canon!Koizilla, which ... just not nearly as objectionable as she wants it to be, I think. Not that it isn't problematic, of course, oh Avatar and your blissful TV-Y7 glossing-over of massive casualties and collateral damage!
Thinking about it, Koizilla was actually perfect from a propaganda standpoint. "Mum, why is the Avatar bad?" "Because he's blocking the path for world domination he caused the deaths of thousands of people!" I don't know if they ever brought it up in the show or not, but that had to have been the perfect catalyst for the Fire Nation to really go after Aang.
Yep, absolutely - I bet there was some rushed-out Ember Island Players version of the brave, doomed Fire Nation liberators being smashed by the Avatar (well, unless it was all swept under the rug as a blow to Fire Nation standing - but that seems unlikely given the sheer scale of the disaster). And, well, Ozai did respond by sending out Azula!
On a completely unrelated note: I noticed in on your DW profile, you have LoGH listed in your interests. How far are you on that series? Just wondering. ^_^;
