1. Who is your favorite pony in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?
Fluttershy! She's all quiet and nice nearly all the time, and then when she's loud and/or scary it's beautiful. And slightly shocking.
I was tempted to say Zecora, even though her episode was pretty fail, just because I want to write fic about how the reason she immigrated from her homeland is her actually being a witch. She speaks in rhyme because it reinforces her magic. And if you bother her too much she will totally curse you. :D
2. Do you have a favorite ATLA episode?
No!
Wait, yes I kind of do. I love nearly all the episodes at different times for different reasons—Piandao and Sokka's exchange of "You added a rainbow!" ". . . Is that okay?" will never fail to make me giggle, and sometimes I want to watch the whole Sun-Warriors-chanting-and-dragons-appearing-and-Zuko-and-Aang-Dancing-Dragon-ing sequence over and over again, and Azula and Zuko's Agni Kai will always be amazing and gorgeous and heartbreaking, and I would love City of Walls and Secrets just for the beautiful Jet + Zuko fight (though the Dai Li & Joo Dee are positively fascinating), and the moment in Day of Black Sun where Azula just gliiiides over Sokka as she's leaping through that wall will stay with me forever as Best Nonsexualized Female Villain Scene In All Media. I mean, she's like three inches away from him, and he's not going "oooh yeah, hot girl," the camera's not trying to make the audience think about that, he's just SCARED and we're supposed to be too. It's wonderful.
But really, my favorite episode is . . . The Beach!
I'm sure you're all surprised. Big important famous characters in casual setting, epic volleyball, Azula's little speeches, her and Zuko's fail people skills, everyone sitting around and talking about their feelings. And, oh yeah, our favorite Fire Nation teenagers gleefully burning down some wannabe sexual predator's house. There's a reason I have a lot of icons from that episode (and no, it's not just the clothes), and there's a reason one of them is labeled 'Team Fire Nation Awesome'.
I know the Gaang were doing something in this episode too, but I can't honestly remember what, and they're not the reason I love it. The voice acting at the campfire scene is positively magic, and the . . . animation acting? is too. (See: Zuko doing his Ty Lee impression, and then just letting that expression disappear completely from his face as he lets himself fall.) The funny bits are funny, the dramatic bits are dramatic, and it's the only time we get to see Zuko really hanging out with his sister and her friends.
(One of my fondest wishes is to see a canon-quality fic where Team Fire Nation Awesome has to get back/stay together for one reason or another. Saving the world, burning down someone else's house, fighting crime because they're bored teenagers with nothing else to do. Anything to see them all interacting in a not-totally-hostile way again.)
3. What place on earth would you most like to visit?
I honestly have no idea. I'd like to go to some of the temples in Kyoto, more of the Central American ruins (got to go see a Mayan palace/marketplace/temple once, it was awesome), any old city that's just been big and lived in for a long time. Every university library in the world, every art museum that has anything I might like. (The Indianapolis Museum of Art has an inkstone made to look like a dragon in front of mountains, I got to see it once and it's like my favorite thing ever.) The Kyoto Costume Institute. London. Tokyo. Istanbul. New York. Anywhere. Everywhere.
4. What kind(s) of music do you like?
Ooh boy. Well. I like music that I can bounce to, music that puts me to sleep, music that makes me want to run outside and twirl and grin at the whole world. Music that drives me on with hard chords that pull on my heart, music that is bright and girly and somehow pink. Music from magical girl shows, Nujabes-style hip-hop, J.A. Seazer music, I'll Make A Man Out Of You, the third movement from Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major, Lady Gaga's Born This Way album, Daft Punk's Discovery (and the movie that goes with it, Interstella 5555), fanmix music, hard-hitting T.M. Revolution music, strange and cheery and beautiful Shiina Ringo music, brilliant clear heart-starting Janelle Monae music, soft scratchy upbeat Rie Fu music, quietly beautiful Vienna Teng music, world-opening Hirasawa Susumu music. Bouncy j-rock and fluffy j-pop and catchy k-pop and clarifying instrumentals. Women's voices, no voices, sometimes men's voices though not as often. Girls' voices. Moving lyrics and senseless catchy lyrics and no lyrics at all. Music is my world, and it gets bigger and bigger all the time.
5. What fictional character would you most like to meet?
When in their life do I get to meet them? I'd like to meet Azula, after her breakdown, so I could get to know her. Chrome, some time when she's older than me and I can hug her and say thank you, thank you for being the kind of quiet girl who does not have to be weak or sensitive. Any number of magical girls once they've reached college-age—"So, what's it like being a former magical girl? Do you still have the powers?"—or josei heroines, to say teach me how to be cool like you. Faye Valentine, to ask if she's still doing okay after everything. Shiori, to find out if she's ever happy. Adora Belle Dearheart, so I can ask her about shoes. Ranma, to see if he ever gets to be entirely comfortable with the Jusenkyo curse, or if he ever gets cured.
But really, just to meet . . . Natsume and Taki and Tanuma. Fuu. The main character of Sexy Voice And Robo. Sasaya Yuu. I'd want to meet someone who would enjoy meeting me.
Right now, I'd like to meet Koizumi Kyoko from 20th Century Boys. She seems like fun.
