my non-spoilery thoughts on the end of xxxHOLiC; or, my break-up note to CLAMP

I'd known for a while now that the story was going in a direction I didn't like; this ending is not a surprise, merely a disappointment. It feels like a betrayal, though, because this was not the story I signed up for. I loved the sometimes-silly-sometimes-serious ensemble hijinks of the anime and early manga, but it's clear now that the story I wanted to read wasn't the story they were telling. The things I liked about xxxHOLiC are the things that have been written out; no names shall be named, but I imagine most of you would not be surprised by whose they are. I will miss the idea of what this manga could have been; I will not miss what it became.


The things I loved about xxxHOLiC are, fortunately, the things Natsume Yuujinchou focuses on. :D

Sad thing is, I would have been totally okay with that, had it been weird fanfic about Yuuko and Himawari.

I've promised myself to stay away unless they write another Yuuko, another Himawari, another Oruha. I hate what they always do with non-schoolgirl female characters, but they come up with fantastic ones sometimes. (The trick is to stop reading before the bad things happen.)

Yeah, I completely agree with you. I'm totally cutting Clamp out of my reading list. They did wonderfully well in the beginning, with some of the cutest manga I've ever read, like Rayearth and, especially, Chobits. And then they just abandoned X, and now this... I really think those ladies have grown conceited and lazy with success.

What happened? I've seen the anime but based on past CLAMP experience decided that was probably a good place to stop.

I confess, I love the anime with very few reservations. :D Shortly after that point of canon, it was revealed that Yuuko was Dead All Along, Himawari went off to college and could only come back one day a year, Watanuki made a wish that locked him up in the shop for a hundred years and all his friends died.
