So, LJ's latest fail!

I don't lock my posts very often, since if I want something to be private I just don't usually need to post it. But when I do, it's nearly always something intensely personal and, you know, not something I want splashed all over someone's facebook.

And it apparently is very easy to click on accidentally, and it gives a link to the post in question. Great.

Also, LJ has disallowed the use of the / character in tags. Bye-bye, everyone's ship tags~

In related news, I have nineteen Dreamwidth codes for anyone who wants them. :)

(Actually, I'm considering moving all my actual posting over to DW, and just retaining this LJ for commenting purposes. Thoughts?)

If you jumped ship, I would definitely follow you. ;-)

The only things keeping me back at this point, though, are the facts that a paid account at DW costs much more than one at LJ ($35/year vs. $20/year), that there's still more people and stuff going on here on LJ, and that DW will have to become like LJ and start making a profit at some point in the future as well. And the fact that I need a new account since I can't rename the one I have right now.

I'm the kind of guy that tends to think a lot of the complaints brought up re: LJ are a bit over the top, but.......yeah. It's getting to be too much right now.

And another thing to note:

Please note that you can choose to have comments posted to protected entries cross-posted to Facebook and/or Twitter, and the text of those comments will appear to all your followers on those sites, but clicking the link will not show the full entry to anyone who does not have access to view it. The cross-posting options will automatically be unchecked when commenting to a Friends Only or Private post, so that no protected comments are sent to Facebook or Twitter by accident. I don't think I'm going to jump ship entirely just yet, but I think I'm headed that way. And if you want an invite code, you can have one. :)

I do wonder if LJ thinks their decisions through at all before they implement them. Lately, it seems not. At least they're backpedaling successfully? (Incidentally, pingbacks still show ~600 characters around the link, from a locked post or otherwise. Not cool, LJ. Really not cool.)

I would like another invite code please, just in case. Since you have more than enough. XD

Yeah, it appears LJ never thinks through their new implementations; that's what pisses me off the most about this debacle.

A friend of mine has injected some much needed sanity into the conversation (http://eska-rina.livejournal.com/660229.html); I'm linking it because it's good food for thought, even though she's still kinda missing the point.

I don't quite get the level of annoyance at this new feature myself, but this point is the one thing that keeps me frustrated at LJ. They constantly implement poor decisions, get roundly abused, and then backpedal awkwardly. I GUESS you can use this as a business model - one thing about being based around social networks is that people don't want to leave each other behind, and so end up sticking with the business - but it's so stupid!

Aww, I would miss you if you went to Dreamidth :(

Also, apparently they are thinking of implementing the same features. I saw it posted somewhere in the news post.

Yeah, but it would be opt-in rather than opt-out or no-choice. That's the big thing for me.

I'll probably not be moving to Dreamwidth completely just yet, and even if I did I'd probably put a "hey guys I made a DW post, here's the link" post on here. Would that work? *curious*

OIC, I like that more.

Yes! I think that would be a good idea :D
