Bleargh. Christmas was kind of fun, if very exhausting, and now I have nothing to do. Except enjoy having a real keyboard, which is nice because while my new iTouch (!) is SUPER SHINY, it is also a bitch to type on. :[ And my oven is broken. But! Everything else is okay. I have a closet full of new clothes. And you guys are awesome. Even Especially those of you I just met over at the KHR friending meme and haven't gotten a chance to know yet. So! The Five Questions meme. Ask me five questions, I'll answer them, and if you want I'll ask you another five back. My favourite getting-to-know-you exercise. :D
Also, I'm kind of burned out on all the stuff I'm writing right now, and the plot bunnies I'm getting are for series I'm not actually very familiar with. (Stuff like Naruto and Bleach, I mean, where I read like a fourth of it and stopped and everything I know from after that is through fandom osmosis.) Sooooo . . . does anyone have any ideas/requests they don't mind if I mess around with? I can't promise that I'll end up writing all or even any of them (I'm notoriously slow at writing, besides) but I would love to see some of the plots/fics you want to read but don't feel like trying to write. You know, stuff like 'an epic Severitus about Harry becoming an awesome magical engineer and having buckets of UST with Theodore Nott' or 'genderbent Squalo/Yamamoto'.
Fandoms: Anything you know I'm familiar with, though it would be nice if they weren't super-long or if they were (like Harry Potter) the kind where you can really get away with just making shit up and slapping an 'AU' label on it. Again, I can't promise I'll actually do anything -- but I want to see what kind of things you guys have kicking around your heads, and maybe get something to scribble around with.

What's your favorite (or one of your favorite) books?
If you could live in another time period what would it be?
Do you have any sibling (if so, how many)?
What got you into KHR?

Date: 2009-12-29 02:26 pm (UTC)I'm going to say Neil Gaiman's American Gods, because I started re-reading a bit of it this morning and was stuck in place for over an hour. :D
The future. ;) Or, if I could be a wealthy citizen, in Constantinople under Justinian. But I really think that right now we have the best deal anyone's ever gotten (think about the Romans, and what luxury we have even compared to their noblemen) and it's just going to get better as long as we keep working on it.
I have one little brother. :)
TV Tropes. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KatekyoHitmanReborn) For srs.

Haha, I like that answer.
And Tv Tropes is LOVE. I have lost so many HOURS to that website...
Question me! XD

Date: 2009-12-29 06:13 am (UTC)Hmmm you might have already answered these questions with the khr meme, but I forgot your answer so:
1. What is/are your favorite pairing(s)?
2. Do you watch j-doramas, if yes what are your favorites?
3. If you feel comfortable with it, what country do you live in?
4. Any pet peeves?
5. Tell me something about food/eating + you?

Date: 2009-12-29 06:23 am (UTC)1. What is/are your favorite pairing(s)?
Anything between Tsuna, Hibari, and Mukuro but I'm not too particular
2. Do you watch j-doramas, if yes what are your favorites?
Hotaru no Hikari, Nobuta wo Produce, Operation Love, Liar Game, Hanayori Dango, Otomen, Ryuusei no Kizuna
3. If you feel comfortable with it, what country do you live in?
USA (sadly)
4. Any pet peeves?
English that's supposed to be English, but really isn't English (IE what I just said if it doesn't make sense at least)
5. Tell me something about food/eating + you?
I think you should eat whatever you want whenever you want as long as it won't kill you in the immediate future =)
Sometimes when I eat something like chips when you have to keep sticking your arm into a bag and then your mouth over and over again I forget I'm eating and won't stop until I'm out or someone stops me.

Date: 2009-12-29 02:04 pm (UTC)2. I don't have a very good attention span when it comes to watching things. With j-dramas I usually get a few episodes in and then completely stop. I've only actually finished two, which were pretty good: Remote and Liar Game. I've been meaning to watch Nobuto wo Produce, Koshonin, and the rest of Boss.
3. I'm in the U.S., too. :P
4. People mixing up words that sound similar. Imply =/= infer, dammit! (BTW, the plural of octopus is not octopi. It's octopuses, because the Greek plural is too complicated and you shouldn't be using a Latin ending on a Greek word.)
5. I'm a vegetarian, and I love to cook. ♥ I can't wait for summer and fresh vegetables!

Date: 2009-12-29 07:00 pm (UTC)@2: hmmm i haven't heard of those other doramas I'll have to go check them out. BUT about liar game: do you feel you have to think a lot while you're watching it? I was asked this questions and at first I was like 'no' but then after I thought about it, I realized it does make my brain work.
@4: Oh there's a word for that. I always think of that one clown from A Midsummer's Night Dream when this problem pops up.
P.S. God... I know nothing about Latin or Greek.. can I borrow your brain?
@5: A vegetarian? I respect that.. many of my friends have tried going that route but fail. (I'm sorry but I will always be a meat-eater).

Date: 2009-12-29 08:38 pm (UTC)It did, kind of. I certainly understand Japanese currency a lot better. :) I really should get around to watching Liar Game 2 . . .
Haha, all I really know about Latin and Greek is that you're not supposed to use them in the same word. Like, you can't say 'Geo Incognita' because geo=Greek and incognita=Latin. And octopus is derived from Greek, so you can't use the Latin plural -i on it. Or something. /grammar geek
I've been a vegetarian most of my life, so even if I could make myself eat meat my body probably couldn't handle it. :P When I was a kid I just thought dead animals = icky and it seems to have stuck.

Date: 2009-12-29 05:58 pm (UTC)MWAHAHA story ideas! I have a Microsoft Word document full of story ideas. >D How about Sasuke being crippled by Haku during the Wave arc and having to deal with it? Yeah, it's too much fun to mess with Sasuke. >D Also, that Harry Potter idea you mentioned sounds interesting... ;)

Date: 2009-12-29 06:51 pm (UTC)Sasuke is so much fun to write. Poor bastard. >.> Not that I'm planning angsty Sasuke-fic or anything.
Haha, I know that if I tried to write that fic I would end up cramming in absolutely every detail I've ever thought about for the Potterverse. Which would be okay except details without plot and conflict equals bad, and I just can't think of anything except the fact that the title for a spell-maker is Spellweaver rather than Spellsmith because it's more like messing around with threads than anything, Portkey makers have to get licensed, most wizards home-school, and things like that rather than actual this-person-wants-this, that-person-wants-that, this-guy-over-there-is-scheming-a-government-coup conflict.

Date: 2009-12-30 07:01 pm (UTC)plan, plan! way too much fun to mess around with him, mwahaha.
ahh, I guess so. Worldbuilding is just so interesting, though... Have you read the Sacrifices Arc by Lightning on the Wave (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/895946/Lightning_on_the_Wave)? It's Harry Potter AU that veers wildly (and I mean wildly) from the original, but it has excellent worldbuilding. *___*

Date: 2009-12-30 08:16 pm (UTC)Oh, it is. If you decide not to go to a magical university, but you want to work in a specialized field, you can go to the Ministry, take some tests, and get your (say, Spellweaver's) certifications at a certain level. But if you want to get a Mastery in anything you have to study at least a year or two in a specialized university or under an accredited Master. And anyone can make the simplest kind of Portkey, if they know how, but Portkey makers are licensed for a good reason. *_* HP fandom is so much fun mostly because there's just so much to play with.
It's been a long time since I read the Sacrifices arc. I gave up halfway through, I think, but maybe it's time to try again . . .

Date: 2009-12-31 01:38 am (UTC)The Sacrifices Arc is seriously depressing. I read the entire thing as it was being published, but I'm not sure I can read it again, it's sooo long. ^^; But that worldbuilding is really something. :D

Date: 2009-12-31 02:25 am (UTC)I think JKR officially said there were no wizarding universities, but I'm not buying that. ^ ^ And we don't even know how you get a Mastery; all we know is that Snape has one.
What I chiefly remember about the Sacrifices Arc is that it made me want to read about Evan Rosier. (Whom, if you recall, was mentioned exactly once in canon, as someone who took a chunk out of Moody's nose when being arrested.) :D And Peter being portrayed in a positive light, but that's nothing new.
no subject
Date: 2009-12-31 05:14 am (UTC)I heard that too; there are almost certainly apprenticeships for Masteries, I bet. And that can't be the only option to specialize in a subject.
holy crap. Sacrifices Arc's Evan Rosier is batshit insane, but still really interesting in that I'm-not-sure-why-I-like-him kind of way. I honestly got more interested in the supporting characters (including the OCs) than Harry and Draco. ^^;

Date: 2009-12-31 01:59 pm (UTC)That always happens to me with long, epic stories. :D I'll spend the entire time going "main character, whatever. Are we going to see that awesome guy from chapter five again?" (Then again, it seems I always like minor characters more than main ones. ^ ^;;)

Date: 2010-01-01 08:51 am (UTC)1.) So what got you into ONTD_Politcal?
2.) Do you read/watch FMA or Avatar: The Last Airbender?
3.) What shows/comics do you recommend?
4.) Biggest Fanfic pet peeve? (Saw you on FFrants...)
5.) What odd fact about yourself do you like to bring up in conversation? (Or am I the only one who does that...>>)

Date: 2010-01-01 02:55 pm (UTC)2. I pick up a volume or two of FMA whenever I see it at the library, but I don't actually follow it -- although from what I hear, I should start. I watched a couple episodes of AtLA and then stopped for some reason. I'll pick it back up eventually . . .
3. Shoujo Kakumei Utena is my favourite anime in the world. It has actual symbolism and references that mean something! :D Apart from that, there's the classics like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Trigun . . . that kind of thing. Oh, and Legend of Galactic Heroes, which is a fantastically long and wonderful OVA series about two different superpowers having giant battles in space. And politics.
As for comics, anything by Naoki Urasawa is fantastic. Sho Fumimura's Sanctuary is also really good, though it's not the kind of thing everyone likes. (There's a really great double-page spread of two men sitting in a living room. And it's actually dramatic, not because they're Yakuza but because they're sitting in this guy's living room. And they bring flowers for his wife, and congratulate his daughter on passing her test at school, how thoughtful of them . . .)
*cough* Anyway. 4. Terrible characterization, and consistently using a word wrong. Imply =/= infer, dammit!
5. IDK . . . does the fact that I love reading about Yakuza count? :D

Date: 2010-01-01 07:39 pm (UTC)2.) I don't follow the manga as consistently as I do the new anime FMA:Brotherhood. (Which I think is stunning, and it's what really got me into it). AtLA will always be my go-to, because after I found out the nasty side of HP I fled fandoms like woah. I came back with AtLA and although they can be nasty too (any fandom can) I liked the people more. They do have a bunch of symbolism (Arguably why I shipped the ship I did...haha
and arguably why the Korean animators shipped it too) but fans discussed everything, and that was the fun part. Now that it's over, I RP. xD3. I got nuthin'
4. Fandom/Ship specific tropes/cliches done wrong. I really can't complain about there being fandom specific tropes because I've written a few, and my AtLA ship practically made it a game to do so. (Who can write this scenario, but twist it to make it awesome and fresh?) But I'm so sick of people utterly forgetting the character's voices because they're trying to make something specific work. Or when they write adult characters younger. I guess that's terrible characterization? Dialogue mainly.
I once had a reviewer tell me that a dialogue between Roy and Riza from FMA sounded like dialogue between Edward and Winry. Normally I'd be all "Oh. Okay." but Roy and Riza were talking about something that only they knew. So you don't need to be an expert on the fandom to go "Bwuahh? What on earth do you mean?"5. Yes. Yes it does. My initials are DNA.
AND ALL YOUR BASE BELONG TO ME.
