esmenet: the castle in the sky where eternity dwells (Utena) (the castle in the sky where eternity dwe)

Goodness, I think this is the longest period of radio silence I've had on this journal in months! Possibly the longest ever. Eventually I will comment on everyone's entries and post all those lovely things I've been planning to talk about.

However, right now I need recommendations for Japanese films (animated or live-action) from the last thirty years or so, so I have something to write my next paper on. Please? *_*

Recommendations for TV shows in Mandarin Chinese are also very welcome.

You know how lots of anime series have architecture that is clearly a tribute to Utena? (Most recently I think of the school in Star Driver) Are there any movies that do the same thing... ?

I'm not sure what kind of Japanese movies you're looking for, and I don't know what you have/haven't seen yet, but I think I have a few I might suggest to you: タンポポ, 茶の味, Hotel Hibiscus, Summer Time Machine Blues, ちょんまげぷりん, クワイエットルームにようこそ (which I know is on YouTube). I'd also suggest Departures, 誰も知らない, メゾン・ド・ヒミコ, and 真夜中の弥次さん喜多さん, even though I haven't seen those yet.

If you can think of animated Japanese movies you've been thinking of seeing for a while now, that might help too. ;-)

Have you seen Kamikaze Girls? If you haven't: WATCH KAMIKAZE GIRLS. It's about a semi-sociopathic goth-loli embroidery expert and a motorcycle-riding Yanki girl with a soft and squishy heart and their epic ladyfriendship!
