Dear Doer of Darkness:
Oct. 7th, 2011 04:40 pmGeneral stuffs:
I love friendship, domesticity, people geeking out about the things they love, libraries, cities, schools, playing around with narrative structure, clothes, books, music, people who love their work or hobbies, genderfuckery, little bits and bobs of cultural or personal things, language stuff. I really love female characters.
I'm not so big on sex and romance—see icon—I tend to prefer bff or bf-right-now or awkward-getting-along or chosen-family relationships. Not that you can't write sex and romance, of course, but my threshold of enjoyment for those is higher.
Crossovers and AUs are totally cool and fantastic.

fulselden's Yuletide letter last year: I should say upfront that if you have to make a choice between writing the story OF YOUR HEART that you really want to write and following one of the prompts I give below, I would far prefer you to write the aforementioned story OF YOUR HEART.
Basara
Right now I'm only twenty-two (or so—right when Sarasa and Shuri are sending glowy things at each other so they can see to attack) volumes in, and may or may not be finished by the time fics are up; please take that into account.
I love all the characters in this series, even the ones I started out hating. I love that one of the manga's main themes is about growing up after your upbringing, meeting lots of different people and having your relationships to them change who you are. I love that even Asagi, someone I in Sarasa's place would have had killed early on, grows up to be a pretty good guy: not because someone forced him to be 'good', not because he spontaneously turned out that way, but because Sarasa trusted him again and again when she probably shouldn't have, and that was what really got him to believe in someone.
What I would really, desperately love to see for this series: Something about Suou, or one of the other big cities, or maybe Okinawa. I said above that I love cities and libraries and schools; this is not entirely accurate. I adore them, I want to walk their halls and rooms and streets, I want to talk to their inhabitants, I want to wallow in their history and their future. I want to wrap myself in their weather and walk about them singing with the feel of the place.
Suou is the only place in the Red King's domain that can grow grapes. How I love that detail.
Also I like that Okinawa is a democratic paradise. I don't know why I find that amazing and hilarious and wonderful, but I do. The Okinawan characters are pretty cool, too, especially the way their background and worldview is super different from the rest of Japan.
If you want to know more about my thoughts/opinions on Basara, please have a look at my Basara tag (on both DW and LJ).
Janelle Monae - Works
Those mirror-faced guards in the Tightrope video creeped me out a lot, so obviously I want more of them. :D I'm also super interested in the way she kept disappearing into/against walls when they were chasing her. And the way dancing, while prohibited, is not impossible. "Tendency to lead to illegal magical practices," woo. \o/ I'm also super interested in those papers on the table.
Works based off of the Many Moons video or just the music would be equally awesome, however.
西遊記 Xi You Ji - Journey to the West
I've only read the first fourteen or so chapters of this book, but I love it to death. Writing/drawing about your favorite parts after this point is totally cool! I don't think this is something I need to worry about spoilers for, really. :D
I would love an alternate-universe or re-imagining, or a crossover with just about anything. Or something set in the future, or about ordinary people reacting to those crazy stories their uncle brings back from town, about that traveling monk and his disciples.
Monkey is my favorite character thus far (as I imagine he is for most people), but anything about anyone would be amazing. Write anything you want.
If you are like me and desperately want to know what other fics my recipient likes, here are my AO3 bookmarks, which are pretty representative of my tastes.
