3. For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?

Harry Potter: Narcissa! I like that she's a High Society Lady, with Principles, which she will totally throw to the side if she really needs to. Or maybe Hogwarts is my favorite, because you can do a lot with thousand-year-old magic castles.

Avatar: The Last Airbender: Azula . . . maybe. She's a tricky character, but I can tell right away if something I'm having her say is in character or not. And I can understand the way she absolutely hated being shoved down into a box that said 'GIRL' on it (see: burning that doll). I like Ba Sing Se a lot too, and Zuko, but Zuko's very hard for me to write.

Utena: Mikage, for some reason. I find him very easy to write. Wakaba, too.

Katekyou Hitman Reborn!: Chrome is my favorite character, but I find her very difficult. Kyoko is pretty easy, though, as is Tsuna.

Chronicles of Chrestomanci: I love Christopher and his dressing gowns, but really it's Conrad all the way.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Winry! I would count Roy and Ling, but I like writing people's relationships to them rather than actually writing them. And of course, Gracia is amazing.

Hikaru no Go: I've only ever written about Nase. Actually, I would be fairly happy to continue only writing about Nase. She's pretty cool.

Mekakushi no Kuni: Namiki and his business partner. I think they're going to continue being close (well, for a given value of 'close') for a long time, even though Namiki tends to steamroller right over him.

Gokusen: YANKUMI & SHIN FOREVER. waves little banner

Detective Conan/Magic Kaito: I want to say Kaitou Kid, but I kind of hate him sometimes. Aoko & Ran, then, because even though I've never actually written fic about them, I really want to. Just everyday stuff, about karate and piano and best friends/possible boyfriends who are almost more trouble than they're worth.

xxxHOLiC: Himawari and Doumeki are tied. Himawari is hard for me to write, but I absolutely love her when I can get her just right. Doumeki is much easier, being someone who doesn't use words when actions will do, and having a sense of humour permanently set to 'deadpan'.

Ashita no Ousama: no idea.

Yu-Gi-Oh!: oh, goodness. Kaiba, I suppose, because I like characters who pretend to be completely without warm fuzzy feelings.

Natsume Yuujinchou: Taki! She has no innate spiritual powers what-so-ever, and is totally okay with this. I hope I'd be able to be like her.

4. Do you have a "muse" character

No! I am totally against 'muse' characters in general, and for myself in specific.

who speaks to you more than others, or who tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character become your muse?

I don't think I've written enough in any one fandom to have a character like that! Azula, maybe, because she's in just about every A:tLA fic I've written. But really, characters who try to push their way in even when the fic isn't about them . . . minor characters, often. I don't think I could write a HP fic that was just about Harry and Ron and Hermione.

In general, though, I tend to end up writing about girls no matter what. I feel like there are too many works that are all dudes all the time, so even if I start out writing a fic about three guys doing something, it will feel extremely awkward and unrealistic unless there are a bunch of women with them. That's why I basically can't write anything bigger than a short character study in KHR unless I always-a-girl genderswap two-thirds of the cast. It's why I keep not writing fic for things like DCMK and YGO because, hello, the plot-relevant cast is all dudes. If I started really writing for fandoms like that, I'd have to do something to balance the gender divide of the cast or I'd get very uncomfortable.

In conclusion, MORE LADIES PLEASE.

5. If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?

Let them. Why not? If it works, it works. If it doesn't, why are you trying to write them into the fic anyway? Because you like them? Fine, go like them somewhere else and let this fic get on with what's to be gone on with.

6. When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?

*points two questions above* I WONDER.

It's just a different set of assumptions to work with for each. Aside from those there's really no difference, I suppose. But the world needs more of ladies being awesome, and I really like awesome ladies, so I'm quite happy to work on that.

I dunno if I'd agree w/this assessment -- we don't really know if just anyone would be able to use those circles; if Nishimura (bwahahaha) drew one, would youkai become visible in it? We know that presumably any human can see a youkai in the circles, but... do you need some snippet of spiritual power in order to make a circle imbued w/that power?

I kind of assume that she & her grandfather had a tiny bit of power -- although it could all be interpreted that they just happened to stumble upon things that worked through diligent study. It could go either way, really! I just think that we don't know for sure.
