decisions, decisions

A writerly question: If I were to write a fic that consisted entirely of a character's blog posts, should I format it appropriately and post it to AO3/DW as always? Or should I make an RP-style journal and post it like a real blog? (And if that last one, on what site?)
Also, out of curiosity: do you, r-list, like to read about OCs? I tend to go "Yes! Yes! Outsider views on and reactions to canon events!" but I also know some people who don't like using OCs even for bit parts. Which one is more common, at least among people I know?

Date: 2011-05-18 03:20 pm (UTC)OCs can be iffy--sometimes I just love the canon characters so much I don't want to switch to someone new & unknown, who then has to win my heart. I don't mind them for bit parts though.
I think we only share like 2 fandoms, so the answer probably won't make a difference to me, but what fandom are you thinking of this blog post thing for???

Date: 2011-05-18 04:12 pm (UTC)It really does depend on how the author handles OCs, I think. Something like Realizations makes me just want more and more about them, but sometimes they really are just eh.
The reason not to put the blogfic on AO3 would be icons and layouts, I think. But the reason to post it to AO3 would be so I wouldn't have to mess around with dates as much. Hmm.

Date: 2011-05-18 04:10 pm (UTC)I like reading OCs, and god knows I use them all the time. In my experience, they're kind of rare, though--because I generally am not terribly interested in the kind of OC who's standing in as a self-insert for the author and is there to romance the author's favorite character. I got my own self-inserts for that and am not particularly interested in other people's fantasies. On the other hand, OCs who are there to be foils for the canon? Bring it on, that's awesome.
