I can't remember the last time I wrote a fic about a non-genderswitched male character. (Wait, no. Yes I do. It never got finished.) I mean, I'm pretty sure I wrote about dudes at some point. I even vaguely remember trying to write a Harry Potter fic that was actually about Harry. But as far as I can recall, I've never finished a fic that had a main male character. And this does not look like it's going to change anytime soon.

I guess I just find women easier to write about?

Also, I'm wondering about the logistics of writing for a nonexistent fandom. Like, there is no one around anymore who actually cares about D.N. Angel. And the people who might care about it definitely don't care about the hi-we're-the-love-interests-who-show-up-once-in-a-while-to-remind-you-that-Satoshi-and-Daisuke-aren't-actually-banging Harada twins. I'm not sure I shouldn't just keep this Risa-as-the-Kaitou-Dark fic in my head -- or, failing that, in first-draft form -- so I can keep this awesome idea forever without getting discouraged by my own bad writing and the total lack of interest in this kind of thing.

. . . of course, this is not stopping me from wanting to write about the Adventures of Yamamoto's and Hibari's Mothers. Or Five Things About Sawada Nana. Or something. I JUST WANT TO WRITE FIC ABOUT THE KHR MOMS OKAY.

*raises hand* I care about D.N.Angel!

And KHR mom-fic would be totally cool; I fully endorse this bunny. *waves carrots around*

*raises hand also* I like the Harada twins! And I was actually re-reading my dnangel manga the other day. XD

D.N.Angel is kind of ANCIENT FANDOM HISTORY, isn't it. :D

Hmm. I've written both male and female characters and haven't felt like I've had a greater problem writing one or the other. It depends more on the personality for me. I really like writing Sasuke, Itachi, and Sakura but find Naruto harder, for instance.

Haha, I don't know D.N. Angel, but it's always good to write anyway and get the ideas out there. :)

I suppose it doesn't help that all the fics I tried to write with male main characters were long, so I was trying to get their characterization down really well. Whereas with the female-character-centric short stories I was mostly thinking OKAY LET'S TRY AND GET 1000 WORDS OUT OF THIS and it just kind of worked.

Awww D.N. Angel. I remember my sister was obsessed with that series for a while. Nostalgiaaaaa!

It was my first-ever anime and manga. NOSTALGIA UP THE WAZOO.

Awwww. <3

I am 100% in favor of KHR mom-fic. :D :D :D Go, go!

Hah, most of the time I find men easier to write, which is both weird and distressing. At least it's not all the time. Then I'd have to start to worry.

Writing for a non-existent fandom means next to no feedback, but it does mean that the one sad person who wandered into the manga/anime late will be overjoyed to stumble on new fic! (Well, if it fits with their preferences, anyway.)

Five things about Nana would be awesome! I've stopped thinking about Yamamoto's mother because I'm so afraid of getting expectations up. Canon might just never mention her. That page of the art book that showed Hibari's room made me think that we'll get more on his parents and background, though.

Hmm, now that I think about it, most people focus on either both Hibari's parents, or on his mother. In fic/fandom his father never seems to be the biggest influence. I suppose it's because of Hibari's refinement and delicate looks, once you get past the homicidal mania?
