book meme!
Mar. 5th, 2011 03:49 pmThe book(s) I am reading: The Pillow Book (need to discuss it in two & a half weeks), A Conspiracy of Kings (started it yesterday and read a hundred and fifty pages almost at once), Color: A Natural History of the Palette (for research paper purposes, but it's a lovely book), In A Sunburned Country (Bill Bryson! Australia!), Orientalism (Edward Said is my favorite person right now), and a bunch more I'm in the middle of but haven't picked up for a long time.
This list makes it look like I read books a lot more than I actually do. It's only this long because I can't sit down and finish anything.
The book I am writing: I've stopped writing books, I think. Right now I'm just going with short stories and seeing what happens to them. (Though this Harry Potter fic feels like it's going to get pretty long.)
The book I love most: Is saying Ashita no Ousama cheating? I mean, a six-volume manga is not exactly one book. But I am in love with it the most of any print work right now, with the possible exceptions of Year of the Griffin and King of Attolia.
The last book I received as a gift: Does 'bought at my request' count? If so . . . well, Ashita no Ousama + the first volume of Gokusen haven't arrived yet, so the last book my dad bought for me is either My Name Is Red (still unread) or the second volume of House of Five Leaves.
And if 'bought at my request' doesn't count, then the last book someone lent me was The Vast Spread of the Seas, the Twelve Kingdoms book about Shouryuu & Rokuta. I honestly can't recall the last time someone bought me a book without me specifically asking for it first.
The last book I gave as a gift: I don't usually give people books; I stick with food and jewelery. But my brother took all the volumes of Fullmetal Alchemist we got the last time we bought some, and it's okay with me if he keeps them. :)
The nearest book on my desk: Color: A Natural History of the Palette. The next nearest is Orhan Pamuk's Snow.
Also, lookit mah pretty new icons. \o/ Thank you,

Date: 2011-03-07 09:58 pm (UTC)And I love that yes, she got into theatre because of a good-looking guy, and yes, she ends up with him in the end, but those two things aren't really related. I think the romance in AnO is my favorite of all the romance subplots I've read, because there are no sudden huge crushes or sparkle-view visions of hotness; they just like each other a lot. and Fujinosuke likes them a lot too.
(I would pay SO MUCH MONEY to see that showgirl play, btw. SO MUCH.)
