[livejournal.com profile] eumelia : I hate to break it to you, but some opinions are more valid than others. (I said I was going to link this to everyone I know and goddammit I am going to.)

elf: There isn't any Official Fandom Police to tell people they've stepped over the line from "a bit controversial" to "stupid hurtful."

[livejournal.com profile] furiosity : Discussion is not 'ruining' fandom.

melannen: Copyright and the (fannish) internet

[livejournal.com profile] ssj10 : If you pay for this movie, knowing full well why its cast and its production are racist and problematic, then you are actively, in good conscience, supporting institutionalized racism. Period. Even if you already know all about racebending, read this post. READ IT.

musesfool: A mix-and-fic challenge. No sign-ups yet, but worth keeping track of

[livejournal.com profile] au_bingo : Go sign up right now! I'm not posting my bingo card until I actually start writing something, but damn this is going to be awesome.

gen_rec: I feel like I'm spamming the comm. Come rec us some genfic, lj-ers! (If you don't have a DW account, I have codes. If you don't want one, give me the links and I'll rec them for you. I WANT MORE GENFIC TO READ OKAY.)

Also, it has been brought to my attention that some of you may not have read The Journey West. Go rectify this immediately.

As usual, all links pulled from my reading circle + metafandom.

This is one of those things that it's a relief to see someone say outright. It doesn't seem polite, you know? No matter how true it is. I'll be bookmarking that essay.

I love that Airbender post. And I have several fics I want to put on gen_rec, but I need to get around to writing out the "rec" parts as opposed to just having the links.

It's such a relief to hear someone come out and say it, right? I mean, it's something that you know, that nearly everyone knows, but for some reason a lot of people just don't apply it when it comes to social justice.

BTW, the 'rec' bit doesn't need to be extensive. I have a secret formula: something about characterization, something about the plot or writing style, and then whatever catchy draw-in I can think of.

Thanks for the links! I feel like a lot of this meta comes from live action series, whereas there isn't so much in the anime/manga fandoms I follow (the main points of contention in Naruto revolve around gender, but I haven't read about anything more than that). I wonder why that is?

[livejournal.com profile] au_bingo looks so appealing... but I already have to think about [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon first. ^^;

What kinds of gen recs do you like? e.g. which fandoms?
