I feel what you said here was awfully problematic, but I'm having a hard time explaining why. :/

That said, thanks for the links! I've gotten some commentary about this on my f-list and FOAF-list as well, and I've already read glockgal's piece and will try to read the rest. And I might just reblog furiosity's post myself.

To be fair, I don't have a very big DW circle. ^ ^;; IDK, I feel like a lot of my f-list tends not to read meta at all, whereas my reading page on Dreamwidth often seems to consist of nothing else. Dreamwidth seems much more meta-focused than LJ to me, though, which I guess is to be expected -- when I subscribe/give access to DW users, it's usually because they post things that make me think, but when I friend people here it tends to be through friending memes. So it's probably different kinds of self-selection. (I think I phrased that last sentence of the post wrong, it's kind of unclear. . . .)

Yeah, my reaction was a rather instinctual one, and when I thought it over, I realized my initial reaction wasn't all that constructive. So sorry about that. ^_^; But yeah, I totally get what you mean -- a lot of the good meta and thought-provoking posts nowadays are on DW, and that's pretty much all there is right now, so it's much easier to seek out than here on LJ.

Thanks for the links. I'd still managed to avoid seeing them aside from Dark Agenda, as 90% of my DW reading page is Scans Daily (http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/profile), ahaha. (Although US comics being what they are, that doesn't exclude discussions on racism, homophobia, and sexism. FAR from it.)

That comic is awesome. It reassures me about Dark Agenda. The premise of focusing on white characters to promote the depictions of people of colour is, y'know, off in a way. but what's portrayed in the comic is a great way to show 'hello duh, of course it has implications on the characters if you change their race. How the hell do you think this is neutral?'.
