Apr. 9th, 2010 08:24 pmJust saw this and this, and they made me think a bit. I don't even usually think of writing trans characters, just because there aren't really any in my preferred writing-canons . . . and unlike with same-sex relationships, it somehow hasn't occurred to me to just *mention* them in the fic background, even in an oh-btw-X-is-Y kind of way.
It hurts to realise I've been marginalizing people I care about.
. . . Okay, cheerful time now! So, f-list, if you transitioned -- or, hell, if you already have -- what name would you use? *curious* (I'd probably use 'Alan', just because I'm really fond of male names beginning with A and we already have an Alexander in the family.)
Also: prefacing something offensive with "No offence," or saying it was "just a joke" DOES NOT MAKE IT OKAY. In fact, it makes me want to kill you more.

Date: 2010-04-23 11:12 pm (UTC)And thank you for the tip re Dreamwidth. (I wish Journalfen would be so accommodating; they list a slot on their reply form for Livejournal users, verbatim, but won't allow readers to post from an LJ account, and aren't accepting applications for new JF accounts; if you ask them why, the stock reply is--I'm serious!--"It's just to torment you.")
