Feb. 28th, 2010 07:00 pmI'm participating in au_bigbang, and have switched plots/fandoms a couple times since I started. -_- I've gotten on a roll, now, but something's stalled me. My Bleach/HP crossover is acting like it doesn't want to be a crossover -- or at least, not with Harry Potter. It feels too calm and rational, not . . . wacky enough for the Wizarding World. I really like what I've written so far, but I don't know what to do with it.

Date: 2010-03-01 04:16 am (UTC)Unohana Retsu is not the first person to inquire as to the Sixth Captain's whereabouts, but she is the first to get an answer.
"Britain . . . I see. Thank you," she says, bowing to General Yamamoto and excusing herself.
Britain, the home of the two most powerful shinigami ever to be exiled from the Gotei 13. Was he sent to kill them? Surely not -- the pair of them might be able to win against Yamamoto-soutaichou. Byakuya is strong, but not that strong. To watch, then, and perhaps to reconcile. Neither of them were ever pursued or imprisoned, and their exile had been peaceful. It would be possible.
But Byakuya is no diplomat, and the Central Chamber know this as well as anyone. There would have been many better choices: Kyouraku, as the best friend of one of the two, would have been ideal. Aizen would have been excellent. Even Retsu herself would not have been a bad choice. Why Byakuya?
Suddenly, she can't silence the little voice in her head saying: the Kuchiki family has many enemies, even in the Central Chamber of Forty-Six.

Retsu sips her tea and politely ignores the two Fourth Seats arguing outside the door. "I apologize for taking up your time with such a trivial matter, Shiba-taichou."
Kaien tosses his back like whiskey. " 'S okay, I'm worried about him too. Any ideas?"
Her mouth twists wryly. "Not really, or I would have said straight off. And you?"
"One, but it's totally crazy and would never actually work."
Retsu leans forward a little. "Tell me anyway, please."
He does.
"You're absolutely right, that would never work. Let's do it."
They argue for a while about who should go. Kaien tells her that they could both conceivably take their leave time and go to Britain together, but Retsu points out that the only way that won't look incredibly suspicious is if they pretend to be lovers, and that's just ridiculous. Kaien suggests they bring Masako along and pretend to be in a threesome, but then remembers that Masako used up nearly all her vacation days already and if they were just going to be in Britain for a week they might as well just stay here instead anyway and figure out who was doing what why.
Kaien is probably the best choice, out of everyone they can trust. Juushirou's ex-vice-captain, Byakuya's best friend, and known for taking long vacations at strange places in the living world. Masako can take over Thirteenth while he's gone, and she'll make sure nothing happens to Rukia.
It's perfect.
He returns after fifteen minutes, shaking his head. "It's blocked. No shinigami allowed in the UK except the sole representative appointed by the Council of Forty-Six." It seems this is not just about Byakuya, then.
Retsu sets down her tea and pushes herself to her feet. "Let me have a look."
She strides off to check for herself, Kaien jogging to catch up with her. Their captains' haori billow in their hurry, and they meet no-one on the way.
Retsu clicks through the records impatiently. Britain was put off-limits a week ago, slightly before Byakuya must have been sent off. The timing wasn't odd, even if the action itself was. What were they thinking? Three shinigami couldn't take care of an entire country, even for only a few weeks --
She jumps, startled, and Kaien leans over her shoulder. "What--"
He doesn't need to ask. The numbers on the screen are changing, and so is the map on the next screen over. Now the restricted area is limited to many small scattered areas, one of them in London, and a larger one in Scotland.
Kaien, frowning, moves to the next terminal and brings up another map with blue highlighted sections. He superimposes it over the 'restricted' map, and the areas match up almost exactly. Retsu doesn't recognize it, and says as much.
"Magical Britain."
Ah. She has only been to the magical communities of Europe a few times; for some reason, not many Hollows crop up there.
(Ahaha, it just stops right in the middle of the scene . . . but that's where it starts to feel really awkward and I just stopped typing.)
