Sigh.

To explain: I want to write a post-GoF fic. Not an AU of OotP; a post-GoF fic. I never thought ignoring canon could be so hard, but to tell the truth I find it very difficult to single out everything I know from the fifth book and not using (most of) it. No Dolores Umbridge, no Occlumency/Legilimency, no Black Family Tree (or not most of it), and probably no Room of Requirement.

And that's leaving aside actually plotting out and then writing the damn thing.

Oh well. It will happen someday.

On a more positive note, here's the first draft of 30_gens prompt #9, for Kisame and Itachi. (Constructive critiscism very, very welcome. I'm afraid I might have made Kisame sound like a cross between Itachi and Hidan.)

". . . And a dish of sake for my friend, please." Kisame turned to the man sitting next to him. "Been a while, Itachi. Haven't seen you since you quit that accounting firm. Ever take those Konoha Industries people up on their offer?"

"No."

"Ah. Still too restrictive, I take it. What are you doing these days?"

Itachi took a sip from the dish of sake, balancing it elegantly on the tips of his fingers. "Artist's work, mostly. It doesn't pay well, but it is . . . enjoyable. And you?"

Kisame smirked. "Tax collection." He took a gulp of his drink, something strong Itachi didn't recognize. Western liquor. "Can I see some of your 'artist's work'? . . . Or is it not fit for polite company?"

Itachi almost -- almost -- rolled his eyes. He withdrew a small sketchpad from one pocket and flipped through it to find the sketch of a raven he'd been drawing earlier that day. His drinking companion whistled. "Wow, you're good. Konan did always say you had a -- what was it? -- an eidetic memory when it came to that drawing shit . . ."

". . . Perhaps."

Some time passed by in silence as the two finished their drinks.

Kisame glanced at the clock. "I gotta be at a meeting soon. Next week?"

"Certainly."
