I always feel a little hesitant to comment on topics like this because I have a bad habit of bookmarking fics with descriptions that sound cool and then not actually reading them -- so my commentary on fics that should exist is sometimes, "Fic that might exist, maybe, but I haven't found it and/or remembered to read it."
Is thinking that I don't work hard enough at reading fanfic a weird thing?
Anyway!
There's lots of FMA stuff I wish existed (plotty Team Mustang hijinks, sexy/funny/just-a-little-angsty Roy/Hughes set back in the good old days, any kind of femslash) but that's mostly what I end up writing myself. I would really like to read some Roy/Riza kink where she's submissive but very clearly in control of the situation; tragically, I don't feel competent to write kink.
I also tend to want historical AU's (or fic in historically based fandoms) for which I don't have the knowledgebase or time to do the research. Downton Abbey hit me like that a lot.
Historical AU's. Yes. This. Basically I want all the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries fic in the world, but I am not confidant at all to be writing in such a historically based fandom.
Tons of scenarios for Saint Seiya. I'd be here all day.
Post-canon fics about all the ladies in Jin Yong's Book and Sword. Having adventures, honing their martial skills, rebuilding their clans, all of the above, whatever.
Hahaha, all of the ideas I have ever basically! Lately I just find myself wanting really epic fic about women of color, in a fandom I know. I kind of want epic Mulan in space to exist, and also feminist re-tellings of lots of ancient myths.
