I had already decided pretty clearly not to do Yuletide this year, but now my resolve is weakening. Help me! Tell me to write stories in the giant fandoms of your choice instead! Tell me to focus on my studies!

And more importantly, tell me if I can write Yuletide Treats for people if I'm not participating in Yuletide. Just in case.

You can totally write Yuletide Treats for people if you're not participating in Yuletide! CAN AND SHOULD but I only say that because I want to read more of your fic. >.>

My standard answer is "DO YULETIDE unless you feel it would be more stress than fun, in which case DON'T DO YULETIDE, AND ENJOY THE RESULTANT LACK OF STRESS."

In this case: don't do Yuletide! Focus on your studies! Read other people's Yuletide letters and see if you get a no-impending-deadline plotbunny anyway.

This is, incidentally, why the Secret Royal Fire Nation Library is SECRET. Sozin once got drunk and burned down a whole set of shelves (which, happily, turned out to be nothing more than old texts about spirits and some of the more dull early histories*) and the Palace staff decided that, you know, royalty doesn't actually care where their books come from so long as they have them when they need them, maybe we should just put the whole place somewhere else and not tell them.

*Someday I am going to write the rest of the fic that headcanon goes with.

I must admit, the prospect of a low-pressure fic exchange that's based in the parts of fandom I actually hang out with is a major Yuletide-ignoring draw.
