Yes! Which is profoundly weird to me, because even at eleven I would have fought tooth and nail to keep my glittery gel pens and computer games. Dean holds on to his football, but that's all we really see. (Except in next-gen fic, or fic about the younger students, who generally seem to be portrayed as less assimilationist? Or at least fonder of ballpoints and board games.)
Also on this topic, have you read this fic? It's an interesting study of Muggleborn assimilation. (Anthony Goldstein is kind of my hero, by the way.)
