Jul. 1st, 2010 03:18 pmThis has been said before, but I think I should re-iterate it.
Those characters -- you know the ones -- who go to Japanese high-schools, eat Japanese food, wear Japanese clothes, have Japanese names, celebrate Japanese holidays, speak Japanese, and live in Japan? They're Japanese. And it doesn't matter if their hair is blue or their eyes are purple or if they're drawn in a simplified style. CULTURAL MARKERS, LEARN YOU THEM.
Also, unrelatedly, I am finally doing the 30 Days television meme! Almost all anime, since I've finished about two J-Dramas and no US-ian shows.
Day 01 - A show that never should have been canceled:
Mmmm . . . I'm going to go with my first choice, The Big O. They thought they were going to get a third season to explain the whole 'lives on a stage' thing, and the tomatoes metaphor (well, more than they did), and why giant robots, and what was with the barcodes, and maybe why Roger Smith got to be Batman and Angel got stuck with Mysterious Hot Lady Who Bickers With The Hero And Has Sexual Tension.
Or Dorothy could have played the piano loudly at nine in the morning more often and insulted Roger's taste more and knocked down more doors by tapping them with the palm of her hand like she did that one time.
I'm just saying.
And maybe there could have been a bigger fic-writing fanbase. *not bitter at all*
Also, I've started doing a weekly signal-boost/linkspam thing over at my lj. I'm not sure if I should crosspost it here, because most of the links are from you guys. ;)
